The Edinburgh Contemporary Choir launched with two rehearsal
sites across Edinburgh in autumn 2013, to give singers across Edinburgh the
chance to sing and perform contemporary music together as a group.
There were no auditions, and rehearsals were and always will be
a strictly sheet music-free zone - so you don’t have to be able to read music
or have any previous experience to get involved. With the help of our choir
directors, our groups build up to performance standard within just 10 weeks.
Our choir expanded further across Edinburgh, earning rave
reviews from choir members and audience members alike. The highlight of the
year for many was the opportunity to play on the main stage at Gardening
Scotland, a high-profile event which attracts many thousands of visitors each
year. Needless to say, everyone performed AMAZINGLY well on the day, to the
delight of the watching crowds at Ingliston - an extremely rewarding experience
for everyone involved!
Today, Edinburgh Contemporary Choir has grown to cover Glasgow
too, with our sister group Glasgow Contemporary Choir reaching out to singers
in Glasgow. With more exciting opportunities in store for members in the months
to come in both Edinburgh and Glasgow, keep your eyes peeled for a choir
performance, or a new rehearsal group, near you!
